I am a lady who loves to play in the Pacific!! In 2012, I moved to the island of Oahu to complete my Masters Degree in Ecopsychology through Naropa University and currently live in Honolulu, Hawaii. I had been living in the Pacific Northwest on another Island called Revillagigedo in Ketchikan, Alaksa for the last five years prior, but am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. I also lived in Washington State for my undergraduate work in "Empowering Consciousness through Holistic Health, Womens’s Health and the Expressive Arts" at Western Washington University's Fairhaven College in the early 2000's. After completing my Bachelor's Degree I got certified as an Acupressurist through the Berkeley Acupressure Institute in 2005.
My Works and Experience:
My life work so far has mainly been a collage in the fields of alternative education, mentoring, community activism, wilderness guiding, naturalist interpretation, and program development. I’ve worked for organizations like the Girl Scouts, Willing Workers on Organic Farms, Alternative Schools, Public Schools, and Private Guiding companies in Alaska. I had the privilege of doing part of my Masters service learning as a volunteer interpretive ranger through Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii and also did work with Weimea Valley Botanical Gardens on the North Shore of Oahu.
Right Now on the job front, I’m working as an "Organizational High Priestess" for a very innovative hat company called "Truffaux" that sells hand woven Panama hats from Ecuador. Our mission is to "create a stranger more beautiful universe". We have stores in Waikiki, the South of France, a French Firetruck Named Francois, Australia, and online. I love my job!! After giving service through the stressful world of non-profits and the public school system, I now work in an atmosphere of success. It is low stress, supports me, and I work with like minded people.
My interest in using Essential Oils and becoming a distributer for Young Living is a beautiful union of all my studies, works, and practices. I was first introduced to using essential oils when completing a certification to give complementary therapy to people in 2005. I have found that as my understanding of the many faces of trauma deepens, the roots expose themselves. As a result, the medicine changes significantly. Studying Chinese Medicine is what turned my attention to the connection of human health with ecological health. The body is seen more like a garden instead of a machine. One tends the garden in order to be well and the whole becomes more than the sum of its parts. The mutual co-arising of planet and person is so intuitive, and yet so fragmented in our systems and institutions today. The healing of people and place is in high demand and on the rise. I completed my Master’s Degree in Ecopsychology to study this deeper through Naropa University in 2013.
In Ecopsychology, biodiversity is a core value and is a sign of a healthy ecosystem. Young Living's "Seed to Seal" process of "Seed, Cultivate, Distill, Test, and Seal" is what sealed the deal in me wanting to work with this organization. "Seed to Seal" includes organic farming, a sophisticated distillation process, as well as a check and balances feedback loop resulting in a more trustworthy brand and quality product. To have a clear vision and be financially solvent as a business is like eating a balanced meal with good family and friends. It is a whole business instead of a diluted fragment, like most of the essential oils business and essential oils I have seen out there for that matter. Check for three things on the label in order to see if you are really getting a good quality essential oil or not: if you see,"External Use Only", or "No Internal Use", on the label then you know the oil has been cut or is not really 100% pure. The FDA does not regulate essential oils, so "100% Pure" could translate to as little as 5% of the actual plant oil. Also, a real essential oil will never have an expiration date and can be used internally if appropriate. An essential oil is more than a perfume, for a plant has many qualities just like a human being.
MY FAVORITE ESSENTIAL OILS SO FAR:
I LOVE "JOY"!!!!! I am partial to the flowery scent and concept, so I love to wear it on the pulse points of my wrist and neck. I have had some issues with with a tense head from all the hours I spend doing reports and spreadsheets, so I put "PEPPERMINT" on the back of my neck and temples. I diffuse "FRANKINCENSE" and or "ABUNDANCE" during the day while I do meditation, macrame, or whatever creative projects I'm working on. After my boyfriend comes home from a hard day of climbing coconut trees at work, we diffuse "LAVENDER" mixed with "THIEVES", "PAN AWAY", or "STRESS AWAY". He loves it and has been sleeping better. And just this morning I diffused some "PURIFICATION" and "THIEVES" in the kitchen of our studio apartment.
